A hazardous chemical leak from a tanker at the scales in Fulton caused traffic on part of I-69 to be shut down Friday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police said a tanker at the scales was leaking the chemical sodium hydrosulfide, so the scales were closed. As a precaution, northbound traffic on I-69 was shut down for a short time.

While inspecting the tanker, a small leak of the hazardous material was noticed. HAZMAT teams came to the scene and corrected the problem.

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement said the incident was not life threatening, and was completely contained to the scales area.
