"I've decided to run for Congress because I know we can do better in Washington. The career politicians have failed us. As a strong conservative, I will fight for our values in Washington by opposing the tax and spend liberals in D.C.," Batts said.
Batts, 33, became the first Republican elected to countywide office in Hickman County earlier this year, when he was elected as the county attorney.
Batts is also a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he served as a prosecutor as well as alongside other soldiers.
"I look forward to running an honest campaign on the issues, that is focused on the values of Kentucky's first district. For me, it is a campaign about people, not politics. That is the kind of campaign we deserve. This election is an opportunity to elect someone who represents our values, and as a small-town business owner, military member, and prosecutor, I believe I understand those the best," Batts said.
