The Graves County Sheriff's Office will not be enforcing the new mask order from Governor Andy Beshear.

Sheriff Jon Hayden said after consultation with legal counsel, it was decided that they will not enforce this order, as there is no legal authority to do so. He continued by explaining that this has not been passed into law in Kentucky.

In researching the law, the only agency that would have any jurisdiction to enforce such an order would be the local health department.

He asks that calls not be made to the Sheriff's office or dispatch at the Kentucky State Police Post, as there is no legal authority or jurisdiction to respond to any incident, if the only issue being reported is if someone isn’t wearing a facial covering.

The local health department by law is the only agency that would have any authority in this matter.

Hayden is asking people to respect those that choose to wear facial coverings, and to know that there are several exceptions listed that exempt others from wearing them.
