Graves SUV Crash Claims Life of 14-year-old Driver

One teen was killed and another was injured in a crash Tuesday afternoon in Graves County.

The wreck happened around 2:30 pm in the 3000 block of KY 849 East. According to Kentucky State Police, an SUV driven by 14-year-old Julian Duke of Smithland traveled off the right side of the road, down a steep embankment and overturned onto it's top.

Troopers said the vehicle struck several trees as it traveled down the embankment.

Duke had to be extracted from the vehicle by mechanical means and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Graves County Coroner's Office. A passenger, 16-year-old Austin Mullins of Smithland, was airlifted to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN for treatment of his injuries.

Police said both teens were wearing their seat belts.
