A Fulton police officer saved a mother and two children from a house fire on Monday.

While on patrol, Officer Austin Matheny noticed smoke and fire coming out of a home on Kentucky Avenue. Matheny contacted the Fulton Fire Department, then spoke with one of the residents of the home who had just returned from a store. The man told Matheny that there was a woman and two children still inside the home.

Matheny and the man entered the home through heavy smoke and were able to rescue the woman and children. The children were checked by the ambulance service and released.

The Fulton Police Department praised Matheny's courage to act. "We are thankful that he serves the citizens of Fulton everyday."
