Food Giant stores across the area are dedicating their first hour of service to the elderly.

On Wednesday, Food Giant announced that their first hour of service will be dedicated to those that are 60-years-old and older, along with other groups that are most vulnerable to COVID-19.

Store management says they want to give those customers time to shop, while reducing their risk of exposure to the virus.

Laura Byrley, a Food Giant associate, applauded the decision.

She said, "I think it's awesome that Food Giant is doing this for the elderly. A lot of them are by themselves and can't afford to get sick."

Management asks other customers to plan their shopping trips after the first hour of business.

"It is important that we all do our part to support the community's health and well-being."

Management recommends that customers contact the store for their business hours, as they may implement special hours to allow for stocking and sanitization of the store.
