A Post 1 Kentucky State Police Trooper that was killed in the line of duty will be remembered on Friday.

While conducting a routine traffic stop on I-24 in Lyon County, 31-year-old Joseph “Cameron” Ponder was fatally shot on September 13th of 2015.

Trooper Ponder was killed in the line of duty only nine months into his career.

State Police officials will lay a wreath at the flag pole near the site of his death on Friday afternoon at 4 pm.

Following his death, I-24 in Lyon County from the Caldwell County line to Kentucky Highway 293 was designated as the Trooper Joseph Cameron Ponder Memorial Highway.
