A crash Monday afternoon at the intersection of Interstate 69 and Interstate 24 in Lyon County left one person injured and tied up traffic for hours.

According to Kentucky State Police, 33-year-old Abdikarim N. Abdirahman of St. Louis, MO, was traveling south on Interstate 69, attempting to ramp onto Interstate 24 eastbound. Troopers said Abdirahman's tractor trailer hit the guardrail and then overturned off the side of the ramp, trapping him inside.

Abdirahman was extricated from the vehicle and then flown by Air Evac to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN for treatment of his injuries. Police said speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision.

The overturned semi tractor-trailer had one ramp from I-69 onto I-24 blocked for most of Monday night. The trailer was carrying bagged corn meal, and some of it spilled. The cargo had to be off-loaded so the truck and trailer could be removed from the scene.

The crash happened around 5 pm Monday. The ramp was able to re-open to traffic about 11 pm.
