Calvert City Steel Mill Idling in November

The owner of a steel mill in Calvert City has announced it will soon be shutting down the facility, leaving 130 workers out of a job.

In a press release Wednesday morning, Marshall County Judge-Executive Kevin Neal confirmed that Gerdau North America has begun plans to idle their steel mill in Calvert City by the end of November.

Neal said elected officials and economic development representatives have been in contact with the company and with workforce development officials to provide resources available to employees.

Gerdau, based in Brazil, is the largest producer of long steel in the Americas, and has over 45,000 employees in 14 countries.
