A Cadiz woman and an Indiana man were arrested late Saturday night after a traffic stop in Cadiz.

Just before midnight, Cadiz Police Officer Aaron Acree noticed a car traveling at a high rate of speed on West End Street. After pulling the car over, Acree noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverages coming from the driver, 34-year-old Angela Lewis of Cadiz.

Lewis was placed under arrest after failing three field sobriety tests, and a search of her purse yielded two recently used pipes that are commonly used to smoke drugs.

The passenger in the car, 32-year-old Thomas Woodward of Lake Station, Indiana, was allegedly intoxicated and became irate with officers when told he was being placed under arrest. After being arrested, Woodward began hitting his head against the police cruiser's window and became hostile, attempting to spit at one officer.

Lewis and Woodward were each taken to the Christian County Jail. Lewis was charged with DUI 1st offense, reckless driving, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Woodward was charged with alcohol intoxication 2nd offense, possession of an open alcoholic container in a vehicle, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Both suspects will have their initial court hearing Tuesday. Cadiz Police Officer Michael Ayers assisted Acree at the scene.
