A few weeks ago, organizers of the
annual picnic announced that the traditional political speaking would not
happen this year due to COVID-19 concerns. The traditional stump speeches at Fancy Farm have been considered the kickoff to the political campaign season in Kentucky.
Events normally held the
night before the picnic were also scrubbed.
However, some traditional staples of the picnic can still be found.
For lovers of the Fancy Farm barbecue, about 10,000 pounds of pork and mutton will still be sold today on the grounds of St. Jerome Catholic Church. The picnic still features a raffle, and T-shirts will be sold.
The annual picnic is held on the first Saturday in August as a fundraiser for the church.
