Christian County Middle School science teacher Amanda Huff is one of nine teachers nationwide to be selected to participate in a national STEM program taking place this week.
Nine middle school teachers from eight different states were selected to participate in the prestigious National STEM Scholar Program, a unique professional development program that provides advanced STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) training, national network building, and project support for middle school science teachers nationwide. The program was created in partnership with the National Stem Cell Foundation and The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science at Western Kentucky University.
The National STEM Scholar Program selects teachers each year from a national pool of applicants based solely on the description of a
Challenge Project the applicant would implement if funds were not an issue. Selected projects are chosen based on the impact they would have in the classroom.
Scholars attend a week of advanced STEM training on the campus of Western Kentucky University, where they finalize their Challenge Projects with input from other chosen scholars. Scholars receive a stipend for the technology and supplies needed to implement the projects in their classrooms.
This year's participants were selected from approximately 200 applicants nationwide.
