According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, someone who identifies themselves as the “Trooper and Police Educational Association” is calling people asking for monetary donations. The call originates from a Louisville number.
People who have received the calls tell police the caller is very pushy and claims that the organization needs money to buy vests and provide training for area law enforcement agencies. According to the sheriff's office, their vests and training are paid for by grants from the Office of Homeland Security and by county residents' tax dollars.
The sheriff's office said law enforcement will not call you asking for money, and residents should not give out personal information to anyone that calls you unsolicited. Anyone who receives one of these calls is encouraged to contact their local law enforcement agency.
