The first person to test positive for novel coronavirus at a Lyon County assisted living facility has died.

In a Saturday night update, County Judge-Executive Wade White said the 97-year-old woman, Jean Massamore or, "Mama Jean," died earlier in the day. He was contacted by family members who asked him to share her passing with the community.

Massamore was the second person to test positive for the virus in Lyon County. Since then, another resident at River's Bend Retirement Community and two staff members have also tested positive for COVID-19. The second woman is being cared for at the facility and the two staff members are self-quarantined at their homes.

A total of six Lyon County residents have been diagnosed with the virus, according to White, but over 30 tests taken Thursday in the assisted living wing of River's Bend have not yet been returned by the lab.

While the two staff members are not included in the county's total, White said he has mentioned them in his updates because everyone is following the River's Bend situation closely, and he wants to provide the most current and complete information.
