Three North Carolina man arrested on drug and theft charges in Murray

A tip regarding a stolen trailer led to the arrests of three North Carolina men Friday morning in Murray.

The Calloway County Sheriff's Office said around 11:30 Friday morning deputies received a Flock Alert for an enclosed trailer stolen from North Carolina.  Detectives located the vehicle towing the trailer on Highway 80 as it approached Highway 641.

After checking the trailer’s registration and confirming it had been reported stolen, they conducted a traffic stop. Inside the trailer, they found a six-seat golf cart and a Kubota, both of which were also confirmed stolen.

Murray Police Department assisted with the stop, and K-9 Bonnie alerted to the odor of narcotics in the vehicle.

The men arrested were 44-year-old Gary A. Mayo II and 22-year-old Gary A. Mayo III of Shawnboro. NC and 23-year-old Darrell D. Jones of Elizabeth City, NC. 

All three were charged with receiving stolen property with Jones and Mayo III charged with possession of marijuana while Mayo II was charged with possession of a controlled substance-cocaine.

The three were lodged in the Calloway County Detention Center.
