The man accused in a decades-old Massac County homicide case has pleaded not guilty and will remain in custody as the case moves forward.
Court records show 77-year-old George E. Bradfield was arrested in Owensboro and later extradited from Daviess County Detention Center to southern Illinois.
Bradfield entered the plea during an appearance in a Massac County courtroom on Thursday. A judge ordered Bradfield to be detained pending further proceedings.
Bradfield was advised of the charges and potential penalties in his case. Due to the age of the case, the range of potential sentencing could differ between laws in effect in 1984 and current statutes.
Bradfield is now being held in the Tri-County Detention Center in Ullin, where he is awaiting the next court hearing scheduled for May 6 at 1 p.m. in Massac County court.
