The FBI is investigating the mystery package that was left at the WSIL-TV studios on Monday.

The building was locked down for almost three hours as a bomb unit and robot X-rayed and then removed the package, which appeared to be a pair of paper plates taped together with a note inside.

Officials are attempting to track down the origin of the package, which could have been dropped over the weekend into the station mailbox.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The studios of WSIL-TV (ABC Channel 3) in Carterville were evacuated Monday morning while a suspicious item was investigated.

WSIL-TV reported on their website that local police and fire departments, including a bomb squad were called to the scene. Employees evacuated to a neighboring building and waited.

The station website said that law enforcement eventually placed the item in a container and removed it from the area about 12:20 pm, and employees were able to return to work after waiting about 1-1/2 hours.
