Man Arrested for Hitting Woman with Axe Handle

A Metropolis man was arrested Sunday after police said he assaulted a woman with an axe handle.

The Metropolis Police Department said that when officers responded to a home in the 400 block of West 7th Street, they could hear a female screaming for help. They also noticed a front window had been knocked out.

Officers then saw 70-year-old Mack Goodman Jr. with blood on his hands and arms as well as a head injury.

Officers found the victim covered in blood with numerous injuries. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The investigation reportedly revealed Goodman had hit the victim with an axe handle and held her against her will.

Goodman was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic battery and unlawful restraint.
