A Massac County man was arrested last week on drug charges after an altercation.

Metropolis police officers were called to a fight in progress in the area of 10th and Vienna Streets, and were told that one of the people had a knife. When officers arrived they saw two men running, and it appeared that one was chasing the other.

Police caught up to the men near 8th and Pearl Streets. One of the men, 24-year-old Jeremy L. Baker of Metropolis, said he had grabbed a box cutter because he was afraid he was going to be jumped.

During the investigation, police say they found Baker had a large amount of marijuana in his possession. A computer check revealed that Baker was wanted on two Massac County warrants, one for petition to revoke supervision for a previous marijuana possession, and another for driving an uninsured vehicle.

Baker was arrested for marijuana possession and due to the warrants.  He was taken to the Massac County Detention Center.
