A juvenile from Brookport is facing numerous charges after a high speed chase through Metropolis.

On Saturday, officers with the Metropolis Police Department say they noticed someone driving recklessly in a parking lot. After noticing law enforcement, the driver reportedly sped off onto 19th Street and then onto Old Marion Road where he lost control of the vehicle and drove into a ditch.

Officers attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the driver fled. The driver turned onto Massac Creek Road heading toward Gurley Road while reportedly ignoring stop signs and traveling on the wrong side of the road at a high rate of speed. Once the driver reached US 45, officers say he continued driving in the wrong lane and passing vehicles. The driver then turned South onto US 45 toward Unity School Road where he allegedly reached speeds up to 100 miles per hour.

Officers temporarily lost sight of the vehicle, but found it a short time later on Holman Lake Road. The driver then crashed into Holman Lake.

The driver was identified as a 16-year-old boy. As the juvenile was being examined by an ambulance crew, he reportedly tried to flee again. He was recaptured a short time later and taken to the Massac Memorial Hospital for treatment.

He is being charged with reckless driving, illegal screeching of tires, aggravated attempted fleeing to elude traffic charges, and a violation of a protection order. He was released on bond.
