First COVID Case Reported in Alexander County

The Southern Seven Health Department confirmed two new cases of COVID-19 in the seven southern Illinois counties, including the first case in Alexander County.

The new cases include a woman in her 50's from Alexander County, and a man in his 40's from Union County.

According to the health department, there are now fifteen confirmed cases in southernmost Illinois. Two individuals in Massac County have recovered. There have been no deaths reported.

The number of cases in Illinois has risen dramatically in the past week. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health there were 1,140 new individuals with COVID-19 identified on Thursday and 125 additional deaths.  Total cases in the state number 25,733, with 1,072 deaths.
