The Metropolis Police Department is inviting the public to come cool off and enjoy some free food at their second annual Family Fun Day.
Chief Harry Masse says festivities will take place August 12 at the Metropolis Swimming Pool from noon to 5 p.m.
Masse says there will be plenty of fun to be had, with hot dogs and chips for all. There will also be games, a bouncy house, a dunk tank, and a K-9 demonstration. He says it will give the community a chance to interact with officers in a positive environment.
"It's just a way for the Metropolis Police Officers to reach out to the community. As we all know, the majority of the time we get to meeth the kids in a house setting or a non-school setting is usually negative. We wanted to reach out to the kids, and even some of the adults in the community in a positive way." He said.
Family Fun Day at the pool is just one of several community events put on by the department, Masses said.
"We have other partnerships coming together. We do Stuff the Van, which helps Weekend Blessings, which feeds children on the weekends when school programs aren't available. Trunk or Treat for Halloween we partner with the Department of Natural Resources at Fort Massac, and it was huge last year, and we're expecting it to be even huger this year."
The Metropolis Swimming Pool is located at 312 W. 4th Street. Admission is free.
