The Graves County Sheriff said a Jamaican national living in Florida is charged with several crimes after a Graves County couple was scammed out of $83,000.

The investigation by Graves County detectives began last November. Sheriff Jon Hayden said 38-year-old Deroney Facey contacted the couple, saying they were the recipients of a $250 million lottery jackpot. The victims used the phone number on a mailer to talk to three individuals and ended up depositing $83,000 into several bank accounts to claim their unfortunately fictitious prize.

At least one of the suspects was tracked to the Orlando, Florida area, through analysis of banking records and video surveillance. The Paducah office of the federal Department of Homeland Security assisted in the identification of the suspect.

On Friday morning, Homeland Security Agents and the Orlando Police Department located and arrested Facey at a residence in the city of Orlando.

Facey admitted to his involvement in the scam that targeted the couple in Graves County, as well as other victims across the United States.

Facey is a citizen of Jamaica with U.S. green card status. He is currently awaiting an extradition hearing to Kentucky and is being held on $100,000 cash bond.

He's charged with four felonies including engaging in organized crime, theft by unlawful taking over $10,000, securities fraud and operation of a sham company.
