Four-vehicle crash in Ledbetter injured four, blocked US 60

A four-vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon in Ledbetter injured four and blocked US 60.

The crash happened just before 2 p.m. near US 60 and Sheila Drive. According to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, a westbound SUV driven by 17-year-old Raven Young of Ledbetter slowed to turn onto Sheila Drive. The vehicle behind her, a car driven by 42-year-old Tracy Petersen of Smithland, made an evasive maneuver to the right to avoid a collision. The third vehicle in the line, a pickup driven by 59-year-old James Lamb of Salem, could not stop and collided with both.

The crash forced the SUV of Young into the oncoming lane, where it was hit again, this time head-on by an oncoming SUV driven by 73-year-old Sylvia Neville of Boaz. Young’s vehicle was spun around by that collision back into the truck of Lamb.

Neville was seriously injured and had to be flown by AirEvac to an out-of-state hospital. Young, Petersen, and Lamb, the Burna Fire Chief, were all taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
