An Eddyville man was arrested with assault and strangulation after an incident at a Reidland home on Tuesday.

McCracken County Sheriff's deputies were called to Benton Road. The victim had fled the home and was waiting to meet a deputy at a Reidland business.

The Sheriff's Office said the victim told deputies she had attempted to leave the home several times after a verbal argument. At one point, the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Phillip Williams, allegedly grabbed her and struck her in the mouth with a closed fist.

The victim said after she was hit, Williams reportedly grabbed her purse and used the strap to choke her, causing her airway to be restricted and then covered her mouth during the choking incident.

Deputies went to the Benton Road home and found Williams inside. He reportedly had damaged the victim’s property inside the residence.

Williams was arrested and charged with assault, strangulation, criminal mischief,  and unlawful imprisonment.
