If you've been looking to get rid of an old couch, a mattress or a broken dishwasher, the City of Paducah may have the answer for you.
The city announced it will launch a pilot program in March to let residents dispose of large household items during their scheduled garbage collection.
Trash customers can place up to three bulk items on the curb on the Sunday before their collection week. Collections will start on Monday. There will be one bulk collection week per residential zone. Collection crews will not return to streets where they have already collected.
The program will only be available to residential properties, including apartment complexes. Commercial properties are not eligible.
Public Works Director Chris Yarber said they will track residents' participation, the tonnage of items collected, and the crew time required to accomplish the project. They'll also request feedback from residents to guide them in a future bulk pickup plan.
Prohibited items that will not be collected include electronic waste, tires, construction or demolition debris, hazardous materials, appliances with freon/coolant lacking documentation, propane tanks, flammable items, batteries, and any items placed in alleys.
