It’s been a while since I have posted a blog. It’s not because I have lost my passion for wellness and it’s not because of any illness or other trial, quite the opposite. I have been on an exciting journey in the development and opening of a new non-profit organization called The Way of Wellness. We opened our doors at the end of May, 2017.
The Way of Wellness is a residential mentoring facility for women with children who are homeless or victims of domestic violence. Our goals are to help these women and children break the cycle of domestic violence, generational poverty and dependence on governmental programs. In addition to providing safe housing the Way of Wellness will offer case management, life coaching, financial literacy, transportation, parenting classes, encouragement and support so these women and children can become healthy, independent contributing members to our community.
Children who are living in domestic violence or poverty or those who are homeless don’t think about wellness because they are focused on surviving. When home is not safe because a child is worried that they or their mom might be hurt, they aren’t thinking about their math assignment. Kids aren’t too concerned about their English or science homework when they are wondering if they will have a safe place to sleep. Women who are victims of domestic violence or those who do not have a place to call home don’t have the luxury of worrying about getting thirty minutes of cardio in or how many fat grams they had yesterday. They are dealing with the reality of going to a home that is a war zone or literally not having a home at all.
Wellness is very important to all of us because it encompasses each component of our humanness. It is something that everyone can achieve and enjoy, and I personally want to provide information and encouragement to help all people in their endeavors to develop wellness. It’s not just for the beautiful, the highly intelligent or the wealthy. It is something that each and every one of us can enjoy. It does however take commitment and making wise choices in regards to our physical, mental, spiritual, social and financial wellbeing, and making those choices day in and day, week after week until they become a lifestyle. The Way of Wellness will provide for the basic needs and mentor the women and children at our facility so they too can develop and enjoy wellness.
We are asking people to consider partnering with The Way of Wellness. The goal is to find 300 people who would be willing to donate $365.00 to The Way of Wellness. That is just a dollar a day. Perhaps $30.00 per month is more doable for you. Maybe a one-time gift of $25.00 is what your budget currently allows. Your gift will directly help make a difference in the life of a hurting person.
The Way of Wellness is a 501(c) 3 organization. Your tax-deductible donation may be sent to P.O. Box 1122 Murray, Ky. 42071. For more information call (270)727-0387
