Also representing WKRECC were apprentice lineman Zach Underhill of Hazel, and lineman Kevin England of Mayfield. The team was coached by veteran lineman Ryan Morton of Benton.
This was the fourth time Beck has entered the rodeo as an apprentice, and his second time to achieve the best overall apprentice ranking. He competed in four categories: skills climb, hurt-man rescue, isolate capacitor and cut-out/relocate.
Coach Morton said the rodeo is always highly competitive, with just seconds separating the competitors.
The rodeo is sponsored by the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives to showcase and reward excellence in the field of line work. Individual competitors and teams are judged on safety practices, skill and knowledge of their field. The rodeo was hosted by Pennyrile Electric Cooperative in Hopkinsville on July 30-31.
“I was really proud of our guys,” said operations manager Michael Evans. “They represented us well.”
