The April Teacher of the Month is Drake Williams of McCracken County High School. If his name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s won before: in December 2023! This is the second teacher this year that won during a previous year and going forward we’re likely to see more two-time winners!

When we awarded Mr. Williams in 2023, he was teaching social studies. You can read that article HERE.
He’s still teaching social studies so we asked him if anything has changed. “I travel a lot. I’m going to Ecuador with some kids in a few weeks; me and one of the biology teachers and we’re going to the Galapagos Islands.” Appropriately for a social studies teacher, he’s taking his students to see the world: Barcelona for fall break, Paris and London in 2027 and more! Now in his 8th year of teaching, he’s become a “teacher leader within the building,” said Principal Jonathan Smith.

West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Month, sponsored by Scott Walker Construction, is awarded each month of the school year. All monthly winners receive $75 and the school receives a yard sign to show that a “Teacher of the Month Works Here.” As the April winner, Mr. Williams will join the other 2025-2026 awardees for the West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Year which runs April 27th to May 10th.
