Racing returns to the high banks at Paducah International Raceway on Friday night, after 4 years of sitting idle.
The track’s new owners, Adam and Brittany Elliott joined the Greg Dunker Show on Tuesday and talked about the decision to resurrect the dormant dirt track.
“We both talked about it for a few days and we decided to jump in on the deal and we thought we could make it work and make an actual, you know, more of a venue, Adam said. “More less than just dirt track racing, so hopefully, we plan to have some concerts, you know, different events like Monster Trucks and you know stuff like that, so that's our goal with it.”
The road to revitalization has been a long one. The Elliotts said that there were small trees growing in the track and the condition of the buildings was deteriorating. They said that after all the work, they are looking forward to opening night, this week.
Elliott also talked about the reaction from competitors and fans, and who is more excited for PIR's return.
“I think it's a little bit of both. You know the racers and the fans are. They're all excited, so hopefully we keep that energy rolling and keep this thing going.”
Racing will take place on PIR’s traditional Friday nights, with many of the classes, teams, and cars fans remember from the track’s past, plus the Elliotts teased an opening night surprise.
“And we've got, you know, we're bringing some of those back and and I think a lot of people will be excited Friday night when we announce what else we're bringing back that was a kind of a... It was a big deal for this area, and especially for dirt track.”
For those who want a sneak preview, the track is hosting an open practice night on Wednesday.
The green flag flies on the season, this Friday night.
