It's a weekend off for Murray State football, giving extra time to prepare for the long road trip to North Dakota on September 28.
It's also a few more days to celebrate the first win of the Coach Jody Wright era last weekend, when they rolled past Mississippi Valley State 59-8 at Roy Stewart Stadium.
The offense and defense combined to put the most points on the scoreboard since 2019. The Racers scored via the run, the pass, a 54-yard field goal, and even a defensive fumble recovery for a TD.
The Racers (1-2) will need top performances on both sides of the football to challenge their next opponent, the University of North Dakota. The 10th-ranked Fighting Hawks unleashed their own offense in a 52-28 rout of Idaho State last weekend.
It'll be the longest road trip of the season for Murray State, an adjustment to life in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The 1,100-mile journey to Grand Forks will be nearly matched in November with an 880-mile jaunt to Brookings, South Dakota and a contest with the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.
