Otega Oweh, the leading scorer on last season's Kentucky basketball team, declared for the NBA draft on Tuesday while maintaining his college eligibility for a potential return to UK.
Oweh made the announcement on Instagram that he was going to test the NBA waters.
“To the best fans in the nation, the Big Blue Nation – Getting to play the game I love each day, knowing I have your support alongside my family and friends, has truly been a dream come true, and I am incredibly blessed,” he wrote. “I’m taking the next step and have declared for the 2025 NBA Draft, while maintaining my NCAA eligibility.”
Oweh was the most consistent player on coach Mark Pope's first Kentucky team. He averaged 16.2 points per game and scored double figures in 33 of 36 games and scored in double figures in the first 26 games for the Cats, the best such streak by an SEC player last season and the best by a Wildcat since Malik Monk did it in 30 consecutive games in 2016-17.
Oweh, who came to Kentucky after playing at Oklahoma, led the Cats in scoring 16 times.
