New Prospect League baseball team coming to Rent One Park

Owners of Rent One Park in Marion held a press conference this week to announce that they would be the home for a new southern Illinois baseball team in the Prospect League for the 2023 season.

The Prospect League is a summer collegiate wood bat baseball league similar to the Ohio Valley league where the Paducah Chiefs play. The Prospect League schedule is 60 games starting June 1 and ends with championship games during the second week of August.

The newly formed team, along with a new squad from Jackson, TN,  is the 18th entry in the league that has nearby teams in Cape Girardeau and Terre Haute, as well as Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. 

An official announcement regarding the name of the new southern Illinois team has not been publicly announced, but is expected to be made before Thanksgiving. The name Miners is already taken by another team in the league.
