Scott Matlock has been named the new head baseball coach at Ballard Memorial High School. Matlock will also head up the middle school program and assumed his new duties on July 15.

Matlock said it's his honor to be chosen as the next head baseball coach at Ballard Memorial.

“It is my honor and privilege to be chosen as the next coach to lead the baseball program at Ballard Memorial,” Matlock said. “I look forward to continuing the long tradition of having a competitive team on the field, and to having student-athletes who excel in the classroom.”

Matlock served as assistant coach on the Ballard team in 2023-24; prior to that he was assistant coach at McCracken and Heath high schools, and head coach at Hickman County. This is his second year as a full-time district employee, as a maintenance worker and bus driver.

“We were excited when we were able to get Coach Matlock hired in the system and to become a part of our program last year,” said Ballard Athletic Director Dr. R.B. Mays. “He has worked hard with the middle and high schools, and even summer league, to help grow interest and skill in our program. Scott has high expectations, while also growing good relationships and communication with the players and parents. We are going to be very young, and we feel like he will provide solid leadership as we build the competitive teams Bomber baseball has put on the field.”

Matlock added, “It’s my goal to compete win the district title, and compete for the region, year in and year out.”

He and his wife, Christa, have 6 children, and 15 grandchildren.
