Lyon County notched a first-round Sweet Sixteen win 61-46 over Newport on Thursday.

Rupp Arena was also a dramatic place for thousands of fans to witness Travis Perry pass the all-time state career scoring mark.

Perry needed 21 points entering the contest to break the 67-year-old KHSAA career total set by “King” Kelly Coleman at 4,337 points. Perry broke the record on a free throw in the fourth quarter, and finished with 23 points to lead all scorers in the game.

Jack Reddick added 17 and Brady Shoulders 12 to support the Lyons effort.

The Lyons improved to 31-5. They'll face defending state champion George Rogers Clark tonight. Tipoff is 7:30 local time and can be heard on 99.5 The Fan.
