Jimmy Don Peck passes away

A prominent Marshall County and area sports figure has passed away. 
Jimmy Don Peck passed on Thursday, July 21, 2022.
 
Peck started with baseball, playing at Murray State University, where he contributed to OVC titles for the Thoroughbreds 1961-1963. He was named to the All OVC team in 1963 with a .339 season batting average. 

After college, Peck began coaching and teaching at Jetton Jr. High in Paducah. He went on to become baseball coach and assistant basketball coach at Paducah Community College (PCC). During his tenure at PCC, the team won the 1969 Junior College National Championship in basketball. After a two-year stint as head coach at PCC, he landed a job as assistant basketball coach at the University of Southern Mississippi.  
 
Peck returned to his roots in Western Kentucky to coach at North Marshall High School in Calvert City.  The consolidation of the school district provided him the opportunity to move into school administration as athletic director and assistant principal at the newly formed Marshall County High School.  As athletic director he developed and oversaw many new programs including the creation of high school golf tournament events for the region that featured later famous PGA players such as Kenny Perry and Russ Cochran as high school players honing their skills. 
 
As an educator he held Bachelor’s, Master’s, and 30 hours above (Rank I) degrees from Murray State University. 
 
Join the family for a celebration of his life on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, from 5 – 8 pm at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah, 120 Memorial Dr, Paducah, KY.  They will share memories of Jimmy Don at approximately 6:30 pm.
 
Burial services will take place at Maplelawn Park Cemetery at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.
