Lieutenant Colonel Linda Fay Wilkerson Clark went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 10, 2025, at the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House. She was the 5th and youngest child of Thomas and Jewel Adams Wilkerson, born on a cold February 3, 1935, on her father’s 41st birthday (born at home on the same farm where she lived most of her life).
She married Raymond Clark, March 10, 1963. She worked as a Nurses’ Aid and OB Tech at Murray Calloway County Hospital. She was married with four children when she earned her Nursing degree at Murray State in 1969. Her husband gave her the Murray State admission application as a 1965 Mother’s Day gift, and she graduated Magna Cum Laude and most outstanding nursing student. She received a master’s degree in Maternal-Infant Nursing at the University of Florida, and later a Specialist in College Teaching Degree from Murray State. She taught Obstetrical nursing as an Associate Professor for 20 years. She helped initiate in Murray the practices of permitting fathers in the delivery room and of having newborns in the mother's room beyond feeding times. In 1980 she took a leave from teaching and realized her longtime dream of becoming a Certified Nurse-Midwife by completing the rigorous program in the school of medicine at The University of Mississippi. She delivered over 3,000 babies before returning to teaching at Murray State.
She was commissioned a Captain in the U.S. Army in 1978 and served as Officer in Charge at several training sites, including Grady Memorial and the VA Hospitals in Atlanta. Called to active duty during Desert Storm, she ran the hospital at Fort Campbell, earning an Army Commendation Medal; she was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1998 after 20 years of service.
She was preceded in death by both parents, a son Randy Clark, and her siblings Rebecca Wilkerson Cooper, Iva Nel Wilkerson Miller, Lynn Wilkerson, and Hugh Wilkerson. Survivors include her husband; sons Lynn Clark (Paula) of New Concord, Greg Clark (Elba) of San Diego, CA, and Brent Clark (Susan) of Fort Worth, TX; ten grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
