Mr. Lal “Butch” Edward Elliott Jr., age 78, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital.
Butch was born on May 28, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Lal Edward Elliott, Sr. and Mary Kathern (Croft) Elliott. He graduated from Murray State University in 1970 with a degree in chemistry and mathematics. Also, while at Murray State University he was in ROTC. He retired as a meat supervisor for Food Giant Grocery Store. Butch was a member of the South Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, the Tri-M Sunday School Class, and the Treasure of Men’s Group.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, S.C. Doom, brother-in-law, Kenny Doom; and great-nephew, Reed Tribble.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years, Belinda Kay (Doom) Elliott of Murray, Kentucky; they married on September 18, 1971, in Tiline, Kentucky; one sister, Debbie Key (Elliott) Enoch and husband Bobby of Madisonville, Kentucky; mother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Doom of Paducah, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Marsha Metzger and husband Joe of Ledbetter, Kentucky; one brother-in-law, Gary Doom and wife Jennifer of Smithland, Kentucky; 3 nieces, Bridgette Thompson and husband Brent, Desiree Puckett and husband Larry, and Sheri Tribble and husband Danny; five nephews, Stephen Enoch and wife Debbie, Kenan Enoch and wife Stephanie, Brian Doom and wife Jennifer, Nathan Metzger and wife Lacey, and Joshua Metzger and wife Rebekah; eight great nieces and nephews; as well as five great-great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. David Allbritten and Pastor Shani Campbell officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., April 16, 2026, at the New Union General Baptist Church Cemetery in (Lola) Salem, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
