TraShaun Mays, affectionately known as “Rick”, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Deaconess Union County Hospital in Morganfield, Kentucky. At the time of his passing TraShaun had reached the tender age of 20 years, eight months and nine days.
TraShaun was the son of Gregory Lynn Mays and Krystal Sullenger. He was a 2021 graduate of Paducah Tilghman High School and was enrolled in a Culinary Arts program through Job Corps in Morganfield, Kentucky. Additionally, he attended West Kentucky Community Technical College and pursued courses geared toward becoming a Nursing Assistant as well as art and drawing.
TraShaun was a member of Just By Faith Ministries where he was very active in the Youth Department, Sunday School, Flames of Faith, the church choir and Men’s Ministry. He was a former usher and participated with the Circle of Faith and served as a Junior Deacon.
TraShaun was a very caring, respectful and wonderful person who touched all with whom he came in contact. At Tilghman he was a member of both the concert and jazz bands, the Book Club and the Junior ROTC Program.
TraShaun was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Lois Carter; his paternal great-grandmothers, Lucille Hill, Mary Frances Walker; his paternal great-grandfather, Albert Hill, Sr.; his maternal grandmother, Mary Beggs, his maternal grandfather, Eddie F. Sullenger; his maternal great-grandfather, Eddie V. Sullenger, an uncle, Terry Sullenger and favorite cousins, Amontr’e Shelton and Marcus Mays.
Left behind to cherish precious memories are his parents; one sister, Makenzi Mays of Paducah, KY; one brother, Bentlee Carl of Vienna, IL; paternal grandparents Robert Carter and Albert Hill, Jr., both of Paducah, KY; and maternal grandparents, Glenda Arrison and Esther Sullenger, both of Metropolis, IL; his fiancée, Alexis Clark; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2024, 12:00 p.m. at Just By Faith Ministries with Reverend Dr. Gwendolyn Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens in Metropolis, IL.
Family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral hour.
