Sue, a faithful believer, was a member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church and was a 1959 graduate of Brookport High School.
A loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and mother-in-law, Sue was known for her love for the Lord and reading her bible. She was a giving person who was blessed with a listening ear. She enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies and leisure activities such as bingo, word search puzzles, fishing with her sisters, and shopping, both in stores and in catalogs while admiring the latest fashions. However, nothing gave her more joy than being with family. She always said that the best years of her life were when her children were at home.
Left behind to cherish all the sweet memories of her are her Six Children: Versie L. (Tammy) Shannon of Racine, Wisconsin, Derek D. (Renita) Strong of Paducah, Kentucky, Jeffrey L. Strong (Rosalind Battie) of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Michael S. Strong of Atlanta, Georgia, Sheila A. (Clinton) Lacey of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Jamie L. Strong (Michelle Pugh) of Brookport, Illinois; Fifteen Grandchildren: Sophia (Carson) Payne, Shareeka Goff, Versie Shannon, Jr., Derek Strong II, Darrin Strong, Shamika (Jherail) Rhodes, Aleyah Strong, Brandon (Kaylie) Evans, Landon Starkey, Christian Starkey, Archie James Lacey, Olivia Strong, Jamie Marie Strong, Chesleigh Pugh, Kolbie Baird; Two Sisters: Marie Jones of Racine, Wisconsin, and Gloria Ann Shannon; One Brother, Lanfort Shannon both of Brookport, Illinois; a host of Great Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
Preceding her in death were her husband, James E. Strong; a daughter, Janet Marie Strong; her parents, Revie Shannon Sr. and Susie Hamilton Shannon; bonus son, James E. Strong Jr.; three sisters, Rosie Maxine Wade, Freda Baker, and Mary Louise Shannon; and five brothers, Revie Shannon, Jr., Charles Shannon, David Shannon, William Andrew Shannon, and Versie Shannon.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, April 4, 2025, 12 Noon at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Calvin R. Cole Sr., and Evangelist Melanie Nunn officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Family will receive friends on Friday at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
