Paducah | Dec. 28, 1956 | Jun. 24, 2024

Richard Douglas Amos, age 67, of Paducah, passed away at his residence on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 7:20 p.m. He was born December 28, 1956, in Corinth, MS, to the late Cooper Odell Amos and Willieitt N. Damron Amos.

Richard was an active member of Lone Oak Church of Christ. His service included serving the Lord’s Supper, acting as a prayer leader, and working on the Children’s Board.  He retired from Ashland, Inc. as a water treatment specialist. He was also a member of Local 1720.

Richard loved his family and looked forward to family gatherings. He had a humble spirit and loving personality, a keen sense of humor, and possessed a heart of gold. He was a sincere and kind soul who was very private. He never met a stranger and was always giving to those in need. Richard spent a lot of his time, doing the things that made him happy, cleaning, manicuring his lawn, and taking his daily 5-mile walks, sometimes even with his wife. He visited local nursing homes, filling the residents with loving kindness in his service to them which included taking them their favorite foods and other goodies.  His commitment to servanthood also included working with neighborhood youth. He enjoyed watching sports of all types but was adamant about his disdain for the University of Kentucky. He was known for watching anybody but the “Kentucky Wildcats”.  Sunday was the day Richard would be dressed to the max.  When asked why, he would always respond, “I always like to give my best to God on Sunday.”

Richard leaves to cherish his many memories:  his loving wife of 7 Years, Phyllis A. Amos of Paducah, KY; his children, Kevin L. Kilby, Jr. of Paducah, KY, Kevonte’ Kilby of Lexington, KY, Courtey Amos of Paducah, KY, Ashley (Tyrone “TJ”) Evans of Nashville, TN, and Allison (Chris) Smith of Austin, TX.; three grandchildren, Titus Evans of Nashville and Coi Smith and Chayse Smith, both of Austin, TX; siblings, Billy (Queen) Amos, Robert (Shirley) Amos, and James (Barbara) Amos, all of Paducah, KY, Aunita (Bobby) Barton of Marietta, GA, and Earnestine Jenkins of Charlotte, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
