Maxine Louise Hunter, 72, of Annapolis, MD, passed away surrounded by family on August 24th, 2024.
Maxine was born on April 5th, 1952 to Scott and Thelma Stewart in Paducah, KY. Shortly after graduating from Paducah Tilghman High School in 1970, she married her childhood sweetheart, Richard. They went on to have two children, Richard, Jr. and Curtis.
A year after graduating, Maxine followed Richard into the Navy, which took them and Richard, Jr. to Memphis, TN, Whidbey Island, WA, Rota, Spain, and finally (after a short detour back in Memphis), Virginia Beach, VA. During that time, she worked at Navy exchanges and as a bank teller. When Richard left the military in 1982, the family (now with Curtis in tow) moved to Annapolis, MD, where Maxine remained for the rest of her life.
During her time in Annapolis, Maxine furthered her education at Anne Arundel Community College and Fleet Business School, graduating with honors from the latter, including being inducted into the Alpha Beta Kappa society. She also successfully held multiple jobs over the years, focusing on billing and collections, with her last position working in marketing and collections for Farmers’ Bank. After that position was downsized, she successfully created and ran her own business out of the home. Established in 1997, Delinquent Accounts Management specialized in processing collections for other businesses that could not afford in-house collections departments.
While her career was important to Maxine, nothing was more important to her than her family and friends. She was a fantastic, loving and wonderful mom, grandmother, and wife, fiercely protective and endlessly supportive. She was always willing to lend an ear to offer encouragement and/or advice. Also, if you were wronged in some way, there was no more ferocious an advocate than her. Maxine also was an incredible friend, making sure to keep in touch as much as possible and letting people know just how much they meant to her. She did the same for family as well, keeping detailed contact information and updating it frequently to keep the lines of communication open.
Maxine was always the life of any party or gathering, with a warm, easy smile, joyous laughter and jokes filling the air. She loved to play cards and dominoes, or just sit around and talk, recalling fond memories of the past. She also loved watching movies, especially those with romantic plots. However, Maxine was also not someone to mess with; with a strong intellect and iron backbone, she would counter any disrespect with direct honesty.
Religion played a large part in Maxine’s life, as she would volunteer and attend services at Asbury United Methodist Church in Annapolis. Her faith was important to her and, along with the support and guidance from her parents, it helped influence her boundless empathy for others.
Simply put, Maxine was an endless source of love and kindness. We will miss her dearly.
Maxine was preceded in death by: her father Scott Stewart, her mother Thelma Stewart, and her brother Scott Stewart, Jr.
She is survived by: her husband Richard, sons Richard, Jr. and Curtis, daughter-in-law Lisa, grandchildren Kristina Durbin, Ashley McKenzie, Cody McKenzie, Jessie McKenzie, and Richard Hunter III “Tre”, as well as eight great-grandchildren.
