Georgia L. Dobson age 91 of Paducah, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025 at Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital.
Georgia was born May 30, 1933, in Fruitland, TN. She was one of seven children born to the late Henry Jackson and the late Mahalia Jackson. Her tenacity and hardworking skills were developed as a child picking cotton while growing up in Fruitland. Her teenage years were spent in Charleston, MO, working for a family as a cook. It was there that she honed her cooking skills and perfected her craft.
Upon leaving Charleston she moved to Paducah and later met her husband, Clark Arnold. This union produced three children.
Not one to be known for wasting time, Georgia worked 11 years as a bus driver, the first black bus driver, for the city of Paducah. She was a private cook for Dr. and Mrs. Louis Myers for 31 years and owned and operated three “soul food” restaurants famous for their Super Soul Burgers in Paducah.
Georgia believed in helping her church and her community whenever and wherever she could. She was always in service to others. A long-time, faithful member of Greater Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church, she was known as one of the Mothers of the church, a great mentor, and everybody’s “granny.” She was previously a member of the Masonic family with the Eastern Stars, Daughters of Isis and Carpathian Knights.
In her leisure time, Georgia loved to fish, work in her garden, spend time with her family, and, of course, cook. In addition to all her other gifts she was also a singer. At one time she was a lead soloist with the “Helping Hand Singers.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Owen Dobson, her parents, and six siblings, James Crook, J.D. Wilson, Robert Brown, Zella Mae Jackson, Viola Dixon, and Marie Jackson.
Left behind to treasure sweet memories of Georgia are her Three Children, Mary Arnold and Annette Arnold, both of Paducah, KY, and Anthony Arnold of Madisonville, KY; Five Grandchildren, Alyssa Arnold, Gregory Arnold, both of Paducah, KY, Desmond (Kimberly) Arnold, of Louisville, KY, Shaquille (Amber) Arnold of Grand Prairie, TX, and Bryant (Doris) Schaffer of Norman, OK; Four Great Grandchildren, Tykeyah Jones of Paducah, KY, Lexi (Carrick) Brown-Flowers, of Leonardwood, MO, Isaiah Flowers of Louisville, KY and Ember Arnold of Grand Prairie, TX; One Great -Great Granddaughter, A’yonni Jones of Paducah, KY; Special Grandchildren, Nawana Walker, Arrtamus Palmer and Amanda Flippen; Special Child, Yolanda Ligon; Special Sons, Jonathan Flowers and Thomas George; Special Neighbors, Danny and Janice Brown, all of Paducah, KY and a Special Daughter, Pamela (Ray) Turner.
