Ms. Earlie Mae Jones was born on May 16, 1934 to the late Waynan and Jettie Waddy Jones. She peacefully answered her “Heavenly Call” and entered eternal rest on November 25, 2023.
“Big Mama”, as she was affectionately called, was born and reared in Pryorsburg, Kentucky. She received her primary education in the Mayfield Kentucky School System. After graduation from Dunbar High School, she attended West Kentucky Vocational School where she majored in cosmetology. She pursued her career in cosmetology for many years. Later, she was an aide and assistant to Daniel and Clair Key who devoted themselves to her in her retirement.
Earlie Mae was known for her service, wisdom, and excellent cooking. She was a faithful member of Church of the Living God for over 50 years. There she served as the head of the culinary department, member of the official board, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Wherever there was a need, she was willing to fill in the gap and serve. You could always count on Big Mama to lovingly give you straight, sound advice. Christmas dinner at her house was great because you never knew who would show up. Some faces would be familiar and others you may not have seen in years, but you knew the food would be fantastic.
Earlie Mae had eleven siblings. She was preceded in death by brothers: George Jones, Joseph Jones, Wilbur Jones, Augustus Jones and W.C. Jones; Sisters: Annie Jones, Charleta Jones, Charlotte Jones, Geneva Jones and Gwendolyn Mineon Garman.
She had one bonus son, Byron D. (LaTanya) Williams of Atlanta, GA and daughter-in-law, Deborah (Eddie) Edmonds Paducah, KY who blessed her with four grandsons, Terence C. (Melissa) Williams and B. Gregory (Andrea) Williams of Houston, TX; Malcolm Davenport and Michael Williams of Atlanta, GA.
She also leaves a legacy of love and memories to her brother Ridley (Angela) Jones of Englewood, Ohio; nephew, David (Janice), Jones of Paducah, KY; five great grandchildren, Kortney L. Williams, T. Christopher Williams, II, Taryn J. Williams, Judah Williams and Micah Williams; two great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones and close friends.
We will always carry fond, sweet memories of Big Mama in our hearts.
