Deacon Charles Rowland

Deacon Charles Rowland was born on July 26, 1939 in Mayfield, KY to the late Luther B. & Voes Rowland.

Charles was married to the late Emily Hayes and to this union two sons were born.

Charles later married Earlene Lewis on May 30, 1987 and inherited three step-children.

Charles received Christ in his later years and was baptized at St. Michaels Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Reverend Mason and then the late Reverend Clifford Spears.  Charles was a faithful member and served as a deacon until his health began to fail.  He was a firm believer in spreading the word of God; his favorite topic was Paul and the tribulations.  Charles was under the new leadership of Pastor Paul Sims at the time of his death.

Charles graduated from Dunbar High School located in Kentucky. He later went to Devry, where he majored in electronics.  He later attended Coyne College, where he studied to be an electrician.  While here he received several awards for his outstanding grades and leadership.  Not only was Charles a great electrician, he was also helpful to anyone that was in need of assistance.

On Sunday, October 8, 2023, Charles left his earthly life for his eternal rest.  Charles leaves to cherish fond and loving memories: wife Earlene Rowland of 36 years; Two sons; Darryl (Renee) Rowland of Indiana, Devin Rowland of Chicago; Two step-children, Robert Lewis of Chicago, IL and Michelle (Bruce) Kirk of Bolingbrook, IL; Grandchildren, Jamar Carter, Devin Jr., Robbin Mykia Lewis (aka Bad News), Michael Lewis and Donavan Kirk; Sister-in-law, Mary Pettus Rowland of Paducah, KY and a host of family and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Rowland, Sister, Mary V. Rowland and Stepson, Michael (Darlene) Lewis.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, 6:00 p.m. with funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael Missionary Baptist Church 406 W. Monroe Chicago, IL with Century Funeral Service, Inc. in Hazel Crest, IL in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023, 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Mason’s Memorial Chapel 420 E. Water Street in Mayfield, KY with burial to follow at Oak Rest Cemetery in Mayfield.
