On April 1, 2024, at 11:25 a.m. the Lord opened His arms ad welcomed His sweet angel, Christle L. Maxie Phill, age 76, to her heavenly home.

Christle, the daughter of the late Douglas Maxie and the late Lou Ella Hamilton, was born in Princeton, Kentucky on January 21, 1948. She received her education from the Caldwell County School System and Draughons Business College.

In her younger years Christle met and married Lucius George Phill, and to their union five children were born. She remained a housewife until she moved to Paducah in 1972. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Spillman Chapel CME in Princeton. She remained at Spillman Chapel until she changed her membership to 9th Street Baptist Church in Paducah.

Christle went by many names. Before she had any children of her own, her younger siblings started calling her “Mama Chris.” The name that she was known by other than Mama is Ms. Chris.

The gift God gave her of caring for others made it easy for her to work in the field of being a home health provider. Then one day over 35 years ago she decided to apply at the first Paducah Day Nursery. From that moment on she worked not only there but also at her church’s day care as the director. However, she spent the most years at Care Bear Day Care in whatever position where she was needed until her health failed. Most of the children that she cared for over the years are still a part of her life.

The thing Christle loved to do most was cook. Cooking and her endearing love for people resulted in just about everyone in our community having tasted Ms. Chris’ food. For a while she owned a restaurant called Ms. Chris’ Restaurant and Catering. As a member of 9th Street Church, she was head of the culinary committee which planned and prepared all the church meals.

She loved watching “The Young and the Restless” everyday so she let you know not to call her between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. For relaxation she always worked crossword and word search puzzles.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

She leaves many loved ones to cherish her memory: Daughters, Sheena Maxie, Lucinda (Horace) Phill-Banks, Sons, Lloyd (Robin) Phill, Jean “J.D.” (Marie) Phill, Joseph (Autumn) Phill, Kurt M. Barber, Maxwell Henderson; Grandchildren, Domonic Phill, Delessia Maxie, Jean Phill, Jr., Courtney Phill, Mauriel Phill, Arielle Banks,  Hamilton Banks, Hayden Vinegar, Keaton Vinegar, Aaryana Johnson, Kurt Barber II, Nia Barber,  Erica Barber, Briahna Barber, Gabrielle Henderson, Several Great Grandchildren: Five Sisters,  Cecelia (Walter) Poindexter,  Ossie Mimms, Sonya (James) Springfield, Godiva Hopson, Joana Glover; Three Brothers, Charles Maxie, Tracy Hamilton and Bill Hamilton, Several Nieces, Nephews, Other Relatives and Friends.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Thursday, April 11, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Ninth Street Tabernacle Ministries with Reverend Dr. Thaddyeus W. Thompson Sr. and Minister Milo Patterson officiating.  Burial will follow in Maplelawn Park Cemetery.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Pettus Rowland Funeral Home and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
