LaCenter, KY- Major (Ret.) Nickey Hutcherson died November 30, 2025, at the age 89. Major Hutcherson was born in Cairo, IL, November 9, 1936, to Charles and Fannie (Horn) Hutcherson. He lived in several communities during his early years, as his father was an ironworker and moved often. He graduated from Ballard Memorial High School in 1955, a member of the first sophomore class.

Nick is survived by his wife and sweetheart, Faye Hutcherson, of LaCenter, KY; his son, Donnie Hutcherson (Marla) of FL; daughter, Debra Rollins (Michael) of Barlow, KY; sister, Gail Reno of Barlow, KY; seven grandchildren, Morgan Robertson (Ryan), Mason Hutcherson (Mallorie), Jayde Dodge (Blake), Jordan Merryman (Austin), Jesse Wilkey (Adam), Riley Parker (Clayton) and Jack Rollins (Cam); eleven great grandchildren, James Robertson, Ava Hutcherson, Palmer, Presley, Colt, and Georgia Dodge, Andi Jo and Kolbi Merryman, Iris and Jameson Wilkey, and Langston Parker. Nick was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald, and one son, Charles Dean.

He joined the Navy in 1955 and was discharged in 1959. He then joined the United States Army in 1959 and served until his retirement in 1975. He spent his army service in the Air Defense Artillery Branch, except for two years in the field artillery in Vietnam. Nick was promoted the Sergeant in 1961, then received a Direct Commission as 2nd Lieutenant in 1963. He served two tours in South Korea and one tour in Vietnam.

After attending night school for several years, he obtained a Masters (plus) Degree from Hofstra University in New York. He taught at three universities and retired from the teaching profession at Ballard Memorial High School in 1991. In 1995, Nick and Faye sold their farm and moved to LaCenter. He was a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and a longtime member of LaCenter First Baptist Church. Nick was a Kentucky Colonel, a life member of the USS Saint Paul Association, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, and was elected as Mayor of LaCenter in 2018. Of all these accomplishments, he wishes his greatest to be remembered as being the husband of Faye.

Visitation for Nick will be held Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Morrow Funeral Chapel in LaCenter, KY.

Graveside service will follow visitation at Wickliffe Cemetery beginning at 1 p.m. with full military honors.
