Neomi Yates

LaCenter, KY Neomi Yates, age 74, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Baptist Health in Paducah, KY. She was born March 28, 1950, to her late parents, Archie Lee and Mary Esther (Stone) Byas.

Neomi, better known as, Meme, was a light to all she encountered. Never meeting a stranger, she was immediately loved by all. Neomi worked at Teleservices for 20 years until she retired. She later returned to work at La Oasis for 10 years where she enjoyed engaging with the community. She was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church where she was a Mother of the church. Neomi and Wardell, started the Wednesday night culinary program for the youth and spent many years cooking and ministering every opportunity they were given. She was also a member of the church choir.

Outside of church, Neomi was the centerpiece of her family. She enjoyed entertaining, loving and spoiling her grandchildren. Neomi also enjoyed shopping, cooking for her family, traveling and gardening. She was always the highlight of any and every family reunion.

Neomi is survived by her husband of 52 years, Everett Wardell Yates of LaCenter, KY; two sons, Wartez Yates of LaCenter, KY and Torsh Yates of LaCenter, KY; bonus daughter, Delana Orr of Paducah, KY; a daughter, Nikki Yates of Nashville, TN; a Goddaughter, Enetria Griffin of LaCenter, KY; four brothers, Troy Byas (Carolyn) of Paducah, KY, Thomas Byas (Sue) of Springfield, Illinois, Warren Byas (Jocelyn) of West Paducah, KY, Jeffery Byas (Sandy) of Paducah, KY; three sisters Shirley O'Neal of Kevil, KY, Linda Skyes of LaCenter, KY, Barbara Yates (Earnest) of LaCenter, KY; one brother-in-law, Ronnie Yates; four sister-in-laws, Debra Smith, Sandra Yates, Allison Yates and Dorothy Byas; eight grandchildren; Nevaeh Yates, Brandi Jones, Kionna Waldon, Kiael Waldon, Kenlin Thomas, Quinn Orr, Devontae Orr, Dez Orr; seven great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Clois Byas and Wayne Byas; two grandchildren, Shuntez Yates and Keyshaun Orr.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Fairview Baptist Church in LaCenter, KY from 10:00 a.m. until funeral time.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Fairview Baptist Church in LaCenter, KY at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Letoun Bledsoe officiating.

Interment will follow at LaCenter Cemetery.
