Ms. Marlene B. Fraser went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 22, 2023 surrounded by her loving children. 

Marlene was born on February 12, 1944 in Oscar, KY to the late George and Mattie Barrow. She was a lifelong Ballard County resident. 

She was a Ballard Memorial High School alumni of the class of 1962. She earned her bachelors degree in education from Murray State University in 1966, and later, her masters degree. She began her teaching career in 1966 in St. Louis, MO where she taught at a private school. She came home in 1967 to begin her 50 year teaching career in Ballard County, Kentucky. She taught business classes at Ballard Memorial High School from 1967-1997, and Adult Education from 1998-2018. She taught several generations of students, cherishing each and every one. 

Marlene was a fierce advocate for cancer research through the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, marching the capital multiple times rallying support from government officials. She spent many years involved in Relay for Life, helping to bring awareness and funds to Ballard County and surrounding counties.

Marlene was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church La Center, where her love for the Lord shone bright. Marlene loved her family and community passionately. Marlene was the true definition of a warrior; fighting cancer with strength and faith since 1988. 

Marlene is preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Houston; brother, Ronnie Barrow and her loving parents. 

Marlene is survived by her son, Brent (Bridget) Houston of Henderson, KY; daughters, DeAnna (Todd) Vincent of Dickson, TN and Amy (Jason) McGlenon of West Paducah, KY; 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, who will forever cherish their loving Gigi. Marlene also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, her best friend of over 60 years, Dianne Ray and two special cousins, Faye Smith and Carol Cooper.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at La Center First Baptist Church from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held Wednesday from 11:00 until funeral time. 

Funeral will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at La Center First Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jason Hay, Rev. Mark Bond and Rev. Mark Sickling officiating. 

Interment will follow at Oscar Community Cemetery.
