Oscar, KY, Glenda Vee Cooper died early Friday morning in the house she built with her late husband, J.K. Cooper, in 1965. Born on December 7th 1932, the third daughter of Hezie C. McCallister and Effie Shelby McCallister, Glenda served with the wisdom gleaned from growing up in an age of depression-induced scarcity.

Glenda is the last surviving member of the HSOC. Throughout her life, she helped run the dairy farm co-owned by J.K. and his brother, Neil, contributing to the household income by selling seed corn as the first female dealer for DeKalb. At church, she may have been known for the pies she contributed to potlucks, but was deeply committed to her service of Jesus Christ, titling her unpublished memoir Three Lives, One Love in reference to the way her marriage to J.K. had been shaped by the love of Christ.

She was also a fierce advocate for mental health, serving on the National Mental Health Council, as Director of the Mental Health Association of Kentucky, and as chair of the Western Kentucky Regional Mental Health Board. She received the Lovey Raburn Award in 1983 for her contributions to mental health services.

Glenda is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Ladonna Vee Cooper and Kay and H.D. Williams, grandchildren and grandson-in-law, Meredith Cooper and Kevin Minister and Matt Williams; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Kaylee, and Joshua, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of family members, friends, and loved ones.

Glenda Cooper will be deeply missed by those who encountered her strong personality and will.

Visitation Services will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Morrow Funeral Chapel in LaCenter from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
